Synopsis[]

Reacher and Neagley make a final desperate attempt to save O’Donnell and Dixon, stop A.M. and avenge their friends’ murder.

Plot[]

After Reacher was brought into the facility, Shane Langston toys with the thought of killing him and its aftermath. When Langston is called away and informed that Neagley was not in the morgue, Reacher is ordered to get on the gurney but he remains firm causing a fight to break out between a handcuffed Reacher and Langston's men. After controlling Reacher, Langston holds him at gunpoint and demands Neagley's whereabouts, Reacher taunts him that he will not kill him until Neagley is found as she is his last loose end, Langston retaliates by shooting O'Donnell in the leg and orders Parker to dig the bullet from him to remove traces of ballistics. Langston orders Reacher to sit down and interrogates him.

Outside, Neagley surveys the exterior perimeter of the facility and takes down the guards allowing Seaver, Hart and Beckett to infiltrate the facility. Inside, Langston punches Reacher in his desperate attempt to gain Neagley's location and tells him that his plan was to successfully acquire the money then quietly retire in other parts of the world but Swan interrupted his plan after discovering the theft of Little Wing's chips and later calling Franz, Orozco and Sanchez to help investigate the conspiracy. However, Langston had used Swan as a scapegoat in signing off the paperwork and framed him as the culprit after he refuses to be part of his terrorism plot. Reacher refuses to disclose any information and taunts him further and demands Swan's location. Langston answers his demand by showing him Swan's detached eyeball and reveals that he had taken his fingers and eye in order to pass New Age's security before disposing Swan's body. Langston angrily leaves and orders Parker and Lennox to load O'Donnell and Dixon on the chopper and prepares to kill them.

Meanwhile, Neagley sees the arrival of Lavoy's security detail but also spots O'Donnell and Dixon being loaded into the chopper. Langston threatens to torture Neagley's father in order to flush out her location and orders his men to dispose Swan's eye and takes some hardware from New Age's server. While he was doing this, Reacher uses the pin from before and tries to unlock his cuffs. At the same time, music blares from outside and Pierce is ordered to get rid of the kids from before as to avoid any witnesses at the scene. Pierce comes outside and orders the music to be turned off only for the kid revealed to be Neagley who shoots him in the throat. Meanwhile, on the rooftop, Seaver tries to break in while Hart is in the process of cutting the facility's power. After the pair succeed, Reacher unlocks his cuff and Lavoy's security details begin to wipe out any employees left. As the shootout is happening, Lennox and another guard the chopper but are killed by Neagley who enters the warehouse to assist Reacher in the fight, Langston and Parker retreat back to the chopper in order to meet the buyer and leave the country. Reacher notices the pair leaving and tells Neagley to cover him as he runs to the chopper and successfully grabs on to one of the chopper's landing gear. Outside, Neagley and the trio witness the helicopter leaving from the premise.

On the chopper, Langston orders Parker to open the door and prepares to throw Dixon overboard. Reacher is able to climb in and tackles Parker and Langston with O'Donnell's assistance. The fight causes Dixon to nearly fall out of the helicopter but Reacher manages to grab on to her gurney which leaves Reacher vulnerable to Langston and Parker's attack. Parker tells Reacher that he will smash his skull in with O'Donnell's brass knuckles causing Dixon fall and will then toss Reacher after her. Reacher blocks his attacks allowing Dixon to break free from her restraints and she fatally stabs Parker in the neck with a knife that was still embedded in Reacher by the former. Langston is dumbfounded at the new situation and pleads for his life and is willing to tell him the name of Little Wing's buyer and the location of the meeting but Reacher tosses him out of the helicopter, avenging his friends deaths. O'Donnell is freed by Dixon who proceeds to threaten the pilot to hold the chopper steady. The pilot offers to take them to the meeting in exchange for his lif. Sometime later, they arrived at Russell Johnson's house and take Russell and the pilot captive in the barn.

Soon, A.M. and Oleg arrived at Russell's house only for Oleg to be shot in the head by Neagley and Reacher takes A.M. in for questioning. Inside, they present the missile and Reacher accuses A.M. of killing their friends over the weapons. A.M. denies the allegation but Reacher knows that A.M. does not care about the lives of innocent people until he acquires his finder's fee. A.M. gives them the option to arrest him but O'Donnell rebuffs by assuming that he has a top lawyer in his pocket. Dixon gives him the option to disclose the name of the buyer but A.M. refuses, seeing as how it will tarnish his reputation and business. A.M. tries to charm his way out of the situation by announcing that he is just the middleman and prefers to be weapons seller rather than holder of one but this statement costs him his life as Dixon, Neagley, O'Donnell and Reacher all shoot him multiple times.

After killing A.M., the unit recovers the bearer bonds and finder's fee as well as a Little Wing missile and launcher and head to the barn where they meet Seaver, Hart and Beckett and discuss over what to do with the pilot and Russell. The pilot pleads that he did not kill anyone and only flew the chopper with Russell making his case that he did not know what the chips were going to be used for. The unit opts to let them go and the pair flee towards the helicopter. When it flys over the Hudson river, Neagley fires the missile which works as its intended, bringing down the helicopter and killing Russell and the pilot. After discovering Little Wing works, Seaver, Hart and Beckett turn on them as Lavoy had ordered them to cover up the incident and doesn't want to take the chance that they might spill information. However, Reacher had anticipated the betrayal as he had figured Lavoy was a corrupted official that covers incidents related to him and so he had called Omar Karim from DHS. Karim and his team proceed to arrest the trio and Reacher calls Lavoy to inform him that the matter was done much to his shock, Omar gives orders for the tactical team to arrest Lavoy as well. Before departing, Omar asks for the money's location only for Reacher to feign ignorance and the unit walks away.

They stop at a local diner where they discuss how to distribute the money. Dixon suggests that they distribute it to the victims families that have been affected by the incident and tells Reacher to make the decision about distribution. At the same time, the news report the helicopter's wreckage as system malfunction and pilot error as part of Omar's coverup. Reacher decides to share the money between Angela Franz, Anthony Russo, Gaitano Russo's brother, Orozco's sister and Sanchez's girlfriend Milena, and donate a portion to an animal shelter in the name of Swan's dog Maisi, providing enough money for Mr. Neagley to get around-the-clock medical care from Chicago Home Health. Later that night, the unit spends their time in Rockaway Beach where Neagley learns of her father's news and appreciates Reacher. When O'Donnell inquires on how much Reacher had for him, Reacher answers that there is none for him but for his kids under their name in a Credit Union which will cover their education, Reacher tells O'Donnell that he can now take jobs that he wants to which leaves him speechless. Additionally, Reacher starts a Delaware LLC under Dixon's name and suggests that she now works for herself much to her appreciation. When O'Donnell asks Reacher what he will treat himself with, Reacher nonchalantly tells him that he will buy a new toothbrush. The team celebrates the unit's last night together with a photo and share a moment of silence for their fallen comrades. Sometime after, Dixon and Reacher stay at Jade East Motel, Dixon gifts him a toothbrush and jokingly asks him to come home and meet her parents much to his confusion, she tells him that she is sharing a ride with O'Donnell to the airport and spends their last morning in intimacy.

At the airport, O'Donnell and Dixon depart from Reacher and Neagley back to their respective home. Outside, Neagley is surprised that Reacher had bought himself a Trailways pass which allows him to travel anywhere in the country for a year. Additionally, Neagley confesses that she is not comfortable with the arrangement in which they have no contact and provides him each member's phone numbers and tells him to stay better in touch. Additionally, Neagley knows that Reacher loves his unit as a family which is silently acknowledged by Reacher before he boards the bus. The pair depart, Reacher is asked by an old man in the bus on what and where he was going, Reacher responds that he was visiting family and has no idea on the bus's destination.
