Jack Reacher (known mononymously as "Reacher") is a former United States Army military police officer who becomes a drifter, carrying no phone and the barest of essentials as he travels the country and explores the nation he once served. He arrives in the small Georgian town of Margrave and is swept up in a deep-seated conspiracy that requires his keen mind and hard-hitting fists to solve.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Raised in the Military[]

Jack Reacher was born into a military family, the son of active-duty U.S. Marine officer Stan Reacher and his French wife, Josephine. He is two years younger than his brother, Joe. The family’s nomadic lifestyle took them across the globe, living on various military bases in Germany, Cameroon, Belgium, Spain, Okinawa, and France[3]. Growing up, Reacher was called by his surname, a tradition within his family. His mother instilled in him a belief in using his physical strength responsibly and always standing up for what was right.

Jack and Joe Reacher going out for a walk

Reacher and Joe shared a close bond as children, often protecting each other. A defining moment in their youth occurred in Okinawa where a group of older boys was harassing a special needs kid, Billy, into dancing and mocking him. Reacher intervenes and wants to find out if he can take all of them. Billy's dad arrives and the bullies runoff. Reacher, in a fit of rage, used a fortune-telling toy to injure one of them severely. Joe took responsibility for the incident, shielding his younger brother from further consequences. Although their parents insisted they apologize, Reacher’s apology was insincere—he believed the bully deserved even harsher punishment. Shortly afterward, the family relocated to Germany.

Joining the Military[]

After high school, Reacher attended West Point Military Academy, graduating at the top of his class. He began a career in the Army, serving in the Military Police and specializing in uncovering corruption and tracking down AWOL soldiers. While stationed near Baghdad, he befriended local children who played soccer near the base. One day, after walking them home, he discovered they were being mistreated by older men. When the men later attacked Reacher, he killed them in self-defense. The incident was discreetly covered up by his Army connections.

During his time in Kandahar, Reacher displayed extraordinary heroism when a bomb exploded near his barracks. Running into the devastation, he rescued twelve soldiers, carrying them out two at a time despite severe injuries. He suffered from smoke inhalation and had shrapnel—later identified as a piece of another soldier’s jawbone—removed from his abdomen. Astonishingly, he returned to active duty just 32 hours later.

Reacher’s mother, Josephine, became gravely ill during his time in the Army. He and Joe visited her in France to say their goodbyes. Before her passing, she gave Reacher their grandfather’s World War II French Medal, reminding him to continue using his strength to uphold justice. Her death left a lasting impact on him.

Reacher's 110th Unit Formation[]

Sometime after Kohl's murder, Reacher assembled the U.S. Army 110th MP Special Investigations Unit which comprised of himself, Calvin Franz, Frances Neagley, David O'Donnell, Manuel Orozco, Jorge Sanchez, Tony Swan, Stan Lowrey and Karla Dixon with the members being picked for their skills in their respective fields. Initially, they do not get along well and uncooperative. When asked by Calvin if their unit's dynamics would work, Reacher can't provide an answer but treats them to a round of beer in a nearby pub as a form of test.

The unit chattered around the pub when one patron threatened to kick Neagley out due to her rank as the pub only opened to officers. Reacher offered the man a chance of peaceful resolution but crossed the line when the man insulted Neagley. Reacher joined the fight with the rest of his unit. Afterwards, they celebrated at a campfire where Reacher and Neagley solidified their friendship with Franz realizing Reacher knew the team dynamic would work out after the bar fight. Reacher confessed he knew the Officer's Club was a stickler about rules, and knew the club would be crowded. The fight proved they could work together as a unit. The team commemorated their first night through a photo.

Reacher and Dixon in their military days

During their tenure, Dixon brought Reacher's attention to a case of stealing aviation fuel in Afghanistan. She theorizes the fuel was not stolen for profit as she had noticed it was stolen specifically on nights when C-17s ferried Humvees back to the U.S. Dixon creates the mantra "in an investigation, details matter" to which Reacher took note for his future cases. She pointed out there were no black market fuel deals in or around the base with Neagley's theory about the plane being intentionally over-fueled but the amount when the plane lands is as expected. Reacher realized the excess weight was not fuel, but heavy contraband inside the Humvees. With this information, Reacher decided to look into the case with his unit. To celebrate, Dixon asked him to go out and buy her a beer but Reacher rejected the proposal.

Sometime later, Reacher, Swan, Dixon and O'Donnell responded to a crime scene outside a pub with the victim Private Simms shot in the back. O'Donnell believed it's a pub brawl gone wrong, but Swan confirmed Simms was not involved in any fight that led up to his demise as no one had recognised him. Reacher deduced Simms had not been in the bar as his pant cuffs are stained with muddy rainwater and had been running for his life, tripped in a pothole and shot by an unknown assailant. Additionally, Reacher deduced the ink smudged in his palm resembled a kite belonging to someone's drugs. After some inspection, Reacher realised the kite resembled a fighter kite which is popular in Afghanistan as well as heroine's production. Sensing a link between this case and the one from before, Reacher asked Dixon to look into the aviation fuel case once more as he had an idea what was being transported on the plane.

110th Unit investigating a murder case

Later, the 110th successfully accomplished a drug bust in which they acquired 48 bags of heroin. The team celebrated their efforts though Lowrey reminded them there are still work ahead in their case with Neagley discovering the heroin they acquired is 99% pure. Swan expressed his disdain of drug traffickers receiving more money than all their pensions combined. Dixon realises one bag is missing, Lowrey assured he had counted enough bags when they were being loaded in Swan's vehicle. Reacher, Neagley and Swan discovered the remaining bag in the car, and suggested it had fallen at the back when being transported. Reacher accepted Swan's explanation but Neagley remained suspicious of his statement but decided to not further pursue the matter.

When they filtrate a dealing in an attempt to find who sourced the drugs, Reacher and Swan pose as dealers while Orozco, Neagley, Calvin and Sanchez were waiting in the van and eavesdrop on the deal. However, it is unexpectedly breached by a delivery boy who had returned to deliver food. While Reacher was arguing price and tried to finalize, the boy recognised Swan as the man who he had sold an acoustic guitar on Craigslist, Swan tried to gaslit the boy into thinking he had mixed up his identity with another. However, the boy remembered Swan wore an army uniform when the sale occured. Knowing that the deal would go south, Reacher killed most of the dealers saved for the boy. During the scuffle, Swan was shot in the collarbone while shielding Reacher from another dealer. Reacher urged one of his members to call an ambulance for Swan. While waiting, Reacher tells Swan that he owed him his life.

Going Off Grid[]

After leaving the Army, Reacher embraced a life of solitude, referring to himself as a hobo. Unencumbered by possessions or obligations, he chose to travel the country he had once served, driven by his own moral code to seek justice and help those in need wherever he went.

Margrave Case[]

S01E01-03

Reacher being arrested in Margrave

In Welcome to Margrave, Jack Reacher arrives off a Greyhound bus as the small town of Margrave with only a wad of cash and the barest of essentials. He stops a local diner where he intimidates an abusive boyfriend without uttering a word, he continues into the diner where he's about to take his first bite of a piece of peach pie. He notices police cars arriving and solemnly sets his fork down. The police burst in and arrest Reacher for murder, roughly removing him from the diner in zip ties. He's taken to the local police station. Roscoe Conklin processes him, learning the man doesn't speak and only had a passport on him - Jack Reacher, no middle name. He only has 212 dollars in cash and a foreign medal that she recognizes as being a WWII French medal. Reacher's silent act annoys the arresting officers and Chief Edward Morrison, who threatens to put him in a holding cell and force him to talk.

Reacher-S1-01

Reacher argues with Finlay

Oscar Finlay intervenes than, asking the officer to put Reacher in the conference room, introduces himself as the detective on the case, informing Reacher that he's been arrested for the murder of a man earlier that morning. The murder was brutal yet professional, and they can't I.D. the body due to the swollen fingertips. Finlay determines that a lawyer can get him to open up, but Reacher finally speaks to decline his right to a lawyer - he didn't kill anyone recently or in this town. Finlay thinks the crime is something Reacher is capable of due to his MP background. Reacher speaks as he informs Finlay of how wrong his theory is, as the M.O. of the kill suggests three killers with distinctly different styles, not a single killer. Finlay still has a description of Reacher walking near along the road when the body was found. Reacher assures Finlay that was him - he asked the driver to do him a favor and drop him off at the town lines, on account of Blind Blake, the blues musician who allegedly died in Margrave. Finlay still isn't convinced and puts Reacher in holding until he can confirm the alibi. In the cell, Reacher remembers his childhood when he and his family moved to an Army base in 1998. He and Joe walked to the beach. They run into the other base kids and one shoves Reacher, and the two brothers remove their jackets to fight. Joe remarks that their mom is right - trouble does find him.

S01E01-04

Reacher is given coffee by Roscoe Conklin

Roscoe Conklin brings Reacher a cup of coffee though he wants the ties off. She refuses as Chief Morrison won't allow it. They talk for a bit until she admits he can't be guilty of much, as his preliminary scan came up clean. She has to leave with Finlay and takes his coffee away. When they return, they bring Paul Hubble, their new suspect. Finlay requests Reacher to come with him but he refuses until the ties come off. He finally concedes so Reacher breaks them apart with ease than picks up the plastic.

Reacher and Finlay talk in the parking lot about Hubble's confession, which is a false confession. Finlay thinks he still has information to share but Reacher thinks Stevenson has something to share about the case as he held eye contact with Hubble. Finlay calls him out on being overconfident, but Reacher perfectly profiles Finlay to prove his point. Finlay takes him back inside where he calls Stevenson into his office to confront him about Hubble. Reacher ambushes him with questions that eliminate the three major reasons for a murder. Finlay hopes Reacher can get Hubble to talk in prison. He reminds Reacher he's not a cop anymore and Chief Morrison wants him detained until this alibi clears. As the two are detained, Reacher reminds the officers to inventory Hubble's accessories and tells Roscoe it was nice talking with her. The pair are taken to the local prison where Officer Spivey intakes them. Spivey wants to strip search them but Reacher refuses as it's unlawful. After some snippy words, Spivey concedes and takes them to their cell. Reacher reminds a talkative Hubble to shut up.

In the morning, Reacher learns they had been misplaced in general population with the lifers. He warns Hubble that he's currency in here and should save his strength, then hops back on the top bunk to lay down again. An inmate enters and takes Hubble's shoes, glasses which he steps on, and tries to solicit licentious actions when Reacher intervenes. He gives them to the count of three to leave, when they don't, he headbutts the fat man before pummeling him unconscious. He takes one of his friends shades before kicking the others out of his cell. Reacher keeping their glasses for himself and the pair head to the yard.

S01E01-02

Reacher prepares for a fight in prison

They sit on the benches where Reacher assures Hubble of his safety. Hubble explains that people forced him to help people with their schemes. If he disrupts their operation they would torture him in front of his family, then kill him and his wife. The pair head to the bathroom when a group of inmates enter, clearing out the showering prisoners. Reacher warns them to leave but they don't listen. He expertly fights the group and defeats each of them. The security teams is alerted and, despite Reacher temporarily being overwhelmed by the other inmates, he eventually defeats them just as the guards arrive. One of the officers wonders why Reacher and Hubble were in gen pop. They are escorted back upstairs and puts them in a room - which is where they've been the whole time if anyone asks.

When Reacher awakens music is playing softly on the radio which Hubble put on in the hopes of soothing song. Reacher notices the food and Hubble lets him have both trays. Hubble worries that he'll be killed when he's bailed out but Reacher thinks he'll be fine as he's important to the operation. He is curious why someone wants him dead. Spivey set them up in gen pop and the inmates were contracted to kill him in the bathroom brawl. He plans to leave Margrave once he's released. That afternoon, the pair are released from the prison. Reacher finds Roscoe waiting for him as she offers a lift and gives him back his things. He watches the Greyhound footage of him getting on the bus last night. She admits she lied to obtain the footage to get him out, while they're waiting to press charges on Hubble to see if he cracks. He approves of the plan, calling her officer Roscoe. She corrects that her first name is Roscoe while her last is Conklin. She asks about his injuries so he reveals his scrap and his desire to leave town. She feels bad the welcome wagon wasn't great. She was going to apologize with an early dinner which he quickly agrees too. He needs new clothes so they stop at a Thrift Store.

She asks about his life but he wants to see the country on his own terms without a home base for once. His pension is wired to a bank each month. His brother Joe is the only family he has left alive, but Reacher doesn't know where he is. Once inside, Roscoe presses why he's in town, something Reacher isn't lying about. He's there because of Blind Blake and a bar in Tampa that was playing "Police Dog Blues" by Blind Blake. He talked to Joe about Blind Blake a while ago, read an article that Blind Blake performed his last show in Margrave, and decided to visit. He decides to check out the town for a bit until tonight, so she drops him off in town.

S01E01-11

Reacher getting a shave from Mr. Mosley

The people of Margrave avoid him and move out of his way. He finds a statue in town dedicated to Casper Teale. He stops in a barber shop for a shave, and asks Mr. Mosley for information about Blind Blake. They bond over their appreciation of blues singers. Mosley already knows him as the town talks - but he's not scared as Roscoe cleared him. Mosley tells him about Blind Blake and The Kliner Foundation's role in the town. A truck pulls up with KJ Kliner and his cousin Dawson. Reacher leaves the shop to confront KJ about eyeballing him. KJ mentions that he read Reacher had charges filed against him outside of Baghdad that suddenly disappeared. He warns Reacher to watch his back as Margrave doesn't forgive so easily.

Reacher walks to the police department when he learns another body has been found. Roscoe can't go to dinner which he finds disappointing. She doesn't know if he can leave yet. Finlay storms over to confront Reacher over Hubble talking to him in lockup. Reacher denies everything but Finlay doesn't believe him, something Reacher doesn't care about. Finlay threatens to lock Reacher back in prison until a forensic scientist goes through his alibi video, or he can go with them to the morgue in case something jogs his memory about Hubble.

The trio head to the morgue where they learn more about the crime and the new victim. The medical examiner Jasper explains that the first John Doe is hard to identify as his dental work is inconsistent - some done in the US and some foreign. His fingertips were compromised by a dermatitis reaction. Reacher sees the monitor with a photo of the victims hand. He picks it up and admits the victim was allergic to latex so they killers worn a polyvinyl protective suit. The dental work is off because he had them fixed wherever he was living at the time. He broke his right arm when he was eight and had it set in Berlin. His tonsils were taken out at ten in Seoul. The examiner removes the body from the box and shows Reacher the face. He emotionally picks up the mans hand and sees a scar on the left wrist. They were wrestling when he pinned him against a stove without knowing it was hot. That's how his brother got the scar. Reacher leaves the morgue while Finlay throws questions at him. The two get heated until Roscoe intervenes to break it up. She tells Reacher to sit in the back. She knows he won't beat up Finlay without a reason, but Reacher warns that Finlay's giving him a reason. She knows he has kind eyes and won't. He gets in the car. As they drive, Reacher wonders if Joe told him about Blind Blake for a reason so he could so he could do something about his brother being dead. Finlay wonders what he'll do. Reacher thinks he'll find everybody responsible and kill them.

In First Dance, once back at the precinct, Reacher storms off, so Finlay tasks Roscoe with ensuring Reacher doesn't jeopardize their case. After all, Reacher listened to her at the morgue. If he doesn't now, Finlay tells her to shoot him. Roscoe tails Reacher in a squad car but he quickly lets her know he's aware of her tail. He doesn't want her screwing up his investigation, but babysitting him isn't high on her list either. She wants to do her job as she's good at it. He calls out her poor tailing skills but she already knows that he's going to Hubble's to interrogate the man. She can follow him the rest of the way, or he can get in. He decides to save the shoe leather.

At the Hubble residence, Charlie greets Reacher and Roscoe. She thanks him for protecting her husband in prison. She doesn't know where Paul is, and Reacher reveals that his brother's body was the one found by the highway. Joe had Paul's number on him. Charlie doesn't understand why that would be. Tally and Lucy arrive and greet the two adults. Charlie sends them up to get ready for bed. She describes Tally as the one with the glasses but being younger than Lucy. Reacher asks to use the bathroom but does some snooping on his way. He finds Paul's shoes and a familiar seed on the shoe. He returns and tells Roscoe he's leaving. Once outside, he puts together that the distinguishing difference between the girls was glasses, as everything else varied. He thinks the cons that attacked him meant were supposed to take out the one in glasses. Reacher had on sunglasses because he took them from a fellow inmate. Hubble's on the run or they've already got him. He shows Roscoe the seed he found on Hubble's shoe, and she identifies it as a "hitchhiker" seed. They might grow where Joe's body was found.

They investigate the site but there are no burrs. Reacher still thinks it's important. He also thinks Joe's shooter was a skilled marksman. He breaks down the details of the kill and the crime scene. He knows the shooter enjoyed the kill. Roscoe asks about Joe and if they were close or had a family. She wonders what he did for a living. They were close when they were young, had no family, and worked with Homeland Security the last they spoke. He doesn't know the department as they hadn't spoken in a while. He suddenly walks off to find a motel, declining her offer for a ride.

Roscoe tails him to the motel anyway. He comes out of the office where a group of young men begins to harass him. Reacher knows they were waiting for him and that Kliner paid them to "take care" of him. Reacher isn't in the mood for this and one of the boys, Graham, throws a can at Reacher's back, threatening to beat him up. The fight commences with Reacher breaking their hands, leaving one kid to drive.

In the morning, Reacher goes for a walk and discovers a dog with an empty water bowl. He hops the fence and fills the bowl with water from the hose. The owner comes out claiming to have given the dog water that morning, but Reacher calls him a liar for it. He tells Reacher to leave and he pets the dog then obliges. He heads to the station to check in but Roscoe can't talk as Chief Morrison was killed. Reacher claims his innocence but she knows he didn't do it. He gets in the car with her. Finlay is at the scene when Roscoe and Reacher arrive. The crime scene is worse than anything he saw in Boston. Reacher knows Morrison was nailed to a wall. Once inside, the crime scene matches exactly what Hubble described to Reacher in prison. Jasper is giving his coroner report when the trio arrives. Reacher knows it took four men to do the kill and that Morrison's testicles are in his stomach.

S01E02-01

Reacher and Oscar Finlay making a plan

Finlay pulled him outside and Reacher explains Hubble's warning. Reacher lied as he didn't know if he could trust Margrave cops. Finlay proposes that Joe could have been dirty, but Reacher shuts it down. He does, however, think the Margrave PD is dirty. Baker didn't go into the bathroom with him at the station because he wasn't worried about Reacher escaping. He knew Reacher was innocent. Reacher knows that Roscoe isn't dirty but wonders about Finlay, as he's next in line for Morrison's job. Roscoe intervenes as Mayor Teale appointed himself acting chief meaning Teale's dirty and Finlay's okay. Morrison's death was a message and Roscoe and Finlay can't handle that alone, so the three have to work together. Reacher thinks Hubble is already dead.

He and Roscoe head to the Hubble's, where Charlie reveals Paul never came home. Roscoe decides to stay there since she's armed but sends Reacher to talk with Finlay. He needs the Hubble's car. He steals a knife from the lockbox in the garage and tells Roscoe to shoot anyone under six-five if they come near the house. She also won't give him a gun.

S01E02-04

Reacher and Finlay discuss the Kliners

Reacher goes to the town meeting where Teale is giving a speech about appointing himself chief of police. The town jeers back about both Teale and Finlay. Teale declines that the murderers were related. Mr. Kliner intervenes as Reacher is innocent and that his brother was one of the victims. He discusses the run-down state of Margrave five years ago, and how he brought them back. He gives them his word that he'll fix this. KJ and his cousin glare at Reacher from across the room. Later, Finlay tells Reacher about Teale sending him off to chase his tail. Reacher thinks Kliner is dirty and worth looking into. Finlay notes it's a bad idea as the town will hate him more than ever, and Finlay will be stuck looking into the archives. Reacher wants Finlay and Roscoe to pretend to look into those cases to give them cover to do the real investigative work. Like looking into Joe's rental car. Hubble's wife and kids also need protection. Finlay decides to call his FBI buddy Picard from the Atlanta field office to watch them. He tells Reacher to get a phone. After Finlay leaves, Teale approaches Reacher to offer his apologies for Joe's death. He swears to find the killer and will keep him up to date when he leaves. Reacher isn't leaving as he's going to stick around for a while. Teale isn't pleased with that.

Reacher buys a phone at a store next to Mosley's barbershop. Mosley is sorry for Joe's death. He thinks Reacher is looking for vengeance and warns he might not be the only one. A group of Spanish-speaking individuals who weren't friendly came to Mosley's asking about him. Reacher wonders if Mosley is worried about him, but Mosley insists it's just his bottom line - Reacher might need another shave soon. Charlie talks to Roscoe about Reacher being a good person who can help them. Reacher returns and tells Charlie to pack up as she's going into custody with FBI agent Picard. Charlie is hesitant but Reacher is sure this is what Hubble would have wanted. He reluctantly admits that Paul is probably dead, but she can't grieve now as she has to look out for her kids. Roscoe looks at him in disbelief. He leaves to wait for Picard. Once outside, he sees a children's bike.

Reacher sees a black car arrive on the street and watch him before driving off. He bursts in and commands everyone to leave despite them not being ready. The door opens and Reacher grabs Roscoe's gun. The man reveals he's Picard and Reacher verifies his identity. He then helps Charlie get the bags into the car. Picard tells Roscoe this operation is off the books so Picard is taking personal days to watch the family. He doesn't want to get burned and Roscoe promises he won't. Once Picard is gone, Reacher sends Roscoe back to Finlay while he goes to find Spivey at Warburton. Whoever paid Spivey is who's running everything.

S01E02-10

Reacher is cornered by the assassins

Reacher calls Spivey and pretends to be Finlay. He wants to meet up to get their stories straight over the prison incident. They meet in a bar parking lot late at night. Spivey isn't surprised that Reacher set him up - which is why he did the same. A car turns over and pulls up, and a man with a gun stands in front of Reacher. The trunk to the car opens and he commands Reacher to get in, but he refuses as it's too small. Reacher knows the man will hesitate and uses that to his advantage to disarm the men. Reacher and one of the men get into a knife fight and the brawl escalates with Reacher getting cut in the back. The police arrive and Reacher runs off and the officer chases him.

Reacher goes the station house covered in blood as things didn't go as planned. Roscoe patches him up even though he refuses stitches. Finlay is annoyed the brawl members weren't caught as they can't question them now. Reacher snips that he tried his best to shove a pole up his ass but still couldn't sound like Finlay. Finlay recaps Reacher's few days, with Reacher knowing they were South American military. Roscoe found out that Joe was working for the secret service division, but that covers a lot of topics. Reacher thinks it's counterfeiting as Hubble worked in bank management. Roscoe is waiting for a call from the Office of Investigations. Reacher's plans to search Spivey's house are thwarted with the lack of public information about a guard's home address, and Finlay sends him home. Reacher wants to go to a bar but Finlay shoots it down as the townees were mad enough before. Reacher leaves but Finlay puts Roscoe on Reacher-duty again.

S01E02-11

Reacher and Roscoe sharing a dance

Roscoe stops him in the parking lot as she gets his need for a drink. She offers to take him out of town to a roadhouse. It might play the Blues stuff he likes. She needs to change first and he needs a shirt with less blood on it. They drive to the roadhouse when Blind Blake comes on the radio. They arrive at the roadhouse and drink beer together. A Patsy Kline song comes on and it's the law to dance, but he doesn't dance. His mom taught him how to dance but when he asks, it usually proceeds a lot of punching. She asks him though, calling him Frankenstein's monster. They slow dance together to the music. By the time they're ready to leave it's raining, and he begins to remove his jacket for her but she doesn't need it. She runs out into the rain and into the car.

As they drive, they arrive at a scene of police cars. He takes a gun out of the glove box but she assures him they're far from Margrave. He admits it's not far enough and tells her to duck when he says to. They stop and she shows her badge, learning that the bridge is flooded. She asks if there's a motel nearby. Reacher wrings out his shirt and she apologizes for not having anything his size in her truck. He got food from the vending machine and goes to the Clark Bar. He reminisces that every base he was at as a kid had Clark Bars. He and Joe could always count on that being consistent. He offers her half but she prefers Zagnut. He teases that no one likes Zagnut and dares her to read the flavor of the chips she's eating - Spicy Cajun Crawtators.

S01E02-12

Reacher and Roscoe talk while in bed

That night, he sleeps on the floor while she takes the bed. He's been a lot of worse places, and she's never left, Margrave. Her family had been there since the town was founded. The Conklins built the town but the Teale's got in with the railroads and stole the town, laid tracks, and swindled farmers out of their land. He asks about her family. Her parents died when she was a kid but she had Gray - the former chief detective and a family friend. He was her second dad and taught her how to be a cop. Despite his life, he was depressed and hung himself a year ago. He always gave her daisies on her birthday as they were her favorite. She asks about him, and his favorite flowers are snapdragons - cool names and hard to kill. She meant his family, though. He only had Joe left. If he hadn't heard the Blind Blake song it would have been years before he found out Joe was dead. Roscoe admits it's been nice getting to know him despite the circumstances. He returns the sentiment.

In the morning, they go to Roscoe's house and discover the front door is ajar. They investigate with their weapons drawn, finding muddied footprints but nothing missing. It's rubber overshoes and could have been there for either Roscoe or him. She closes the door and finds a message carved into the wood - "See you soon". Reacher proclaims he's gonna need a gun.

In In a Tree,

S01E05-11

Reacher driving with Finley and Roscoe

In No Apologies, with the murder of Molly Beth Gordon weighing heavily on their minds, Roscoe, Finlay and Reacher vow to press forward to find the killers. Arriving back in Margrave, they pass the house where they have previously seen a mistreated dog. Finlay stops the car and Reacher and Finlay enter the yard and remove the dog's collar that is cutting into him. The owner approaches, yelling about them being in their yard and is promptly punched in the face by Reacher who then puts the dogs collar on him and asks him how it feels. The dog goes with them and hops into the car to the surprise or Roscoe. Reacher asks to be taken to the Hubble home because he needs a new car as the other one is full of bullet holes.

Driving the Hubble's Bentley, Reacher makes his way back to the police station where he sees that someone has spray painted the word "whore" on the side of Roscoe's truck. Reacher jumps back into the car and drives off to confront KJ as he knows that he had been the one to vandalize Roscoe's truck. Roscoe gets Finlay and they go in search of Reacher to try and keep him from doing something regrettable. Reacher spots KJ's truck outside a café and goes in to confront him. When KJ starts to insult Roscoe, a fight breaks out and Reacher quickly puts KJ and his companions on the floor. KJ jumps up and grabs a knife just as Roscoe and Finlay arrive to keep Reacher from inflicting more damage. Mr. Kliner enters the room and demands that Reacher be arrested for assault. Finlay asks Roscoe to take Reacher outside. Kliner ultimately doesn't press charges, something that doesn't surprise Reacher. Roscoe is unjustly fired from her job for "shoddy" police work.

S01E05-02

Reacher, Roscoe and Finlay make a plan

Reacher suspects that Gray may have left something behind since he gave Roscoe his Desert Eagle a full year before he allegedly committed suicide, and that didn't make sense. The team head over to Roscoe's to examine the box that the gun was in. Reacher finds a secret compartment that contains a key. At first, they don't know what it could open, but when Reacher remembers that Roscoe told him that the bald Gray used to go to the barbershop weekly, Reacher realizes that there must be something there. When they arrive at the barbershop, Mosley tells Roscoe that Gray told him not to give the large file cabinet to anyone but her and that he was "proud of his girl". The box contains very detailed records of the Kliner's financial transactions, proving that his organization distributes far more money than it brings in, which leads the team to deduce that the Kliner's are operating a large counterfeiting scheme and that the money paid to the people and businesses of Margrave essentially buy their loyalty.

Reacher realizes that the town of Margrave is perfectly situated as a central hub for distribution, and Finlay points out that the Coast Guard blockade has kept the Kliner's from receiving their counterfeit cash, and that the recent killings show that the Kliner's are panicking because they can't supply to their customers. Suddenly, Roscoe comes to the realization that Gray was murdered and storms out of the barbershop with Finlay following.

Reacher has another childhood flashback of when his mother was making him and Joe get haircuts and then dressed up in the best clothes to visit General Bishop and apologize for beating up their son. Joe offers his apology, but when Josephine prods Reacher, at first he resists, but then he apologizes. However, his apology is to tell them that he is sorry that both sides of the boy's face were not equally damaged. Reacher smirks as he walks away. The present day lesson that he passes onto Roscoe and Finlay, is that bad people should get what's coming to them, no apologies.

Reacher gets a cryptic call from Neagley who says that she wanted to have dinner at 10 but instead had it at 6. Reacher knows that 10-6 is the Military Police code meaning to send civilian police. Neagley didn't want to say anything on an unsecured line, but she knew that Reacher would figure it out and also realize that she was poking fun at him by referring to him as being a civilian. Reacher needs to go to Memphis, but Roscoe can't understand how Reacher will find Neagley. Reacher tells them how he intends to track her down and when he arrives in Memphis, picks the exact diner where she is.

Reacher being reunited with Neagley

They go to a large public park where they can talk freely. Neagley tells Reacher that one of the names on Joe's list was an EPA agent that was murdered, allegedly during a robbery. However, Neagley points out that the report indicates he was killed with a 9mm, 95 grain bullet, which means that the robber used a silencer. Also, nothing was taken during the robbery, so the determination that he died during a robbery is suspicious. Neagley says that a Memphis cop also had suspicions about his killing, but dropped it when the FBI took over the investigation. This cop tells Neagley that he would meet with her and introduce her to one of his CIs (Confidential Informants) to see if he has any info. Neagley also tells Reacher that the body of the dead EPA agent was savaged after he was dead. When Reacher tells her that is what happened to Joe, Neagley realizes how important this is to Reacher and warns him that he needs to be careful.

After looking at the crime scene photos, Reacher deduces from his injuries that Calvin was tortured and then had his legs broken with an iron bar and thrown from a helicopter. Presuming that Calvin had asked the unit's help through his call to Neagley, Reacher asks Neagley who was unable to reach O'Donnell, Dixon, Orozco and Sanchez with Lowrey killed by a drunk driver two years prior and no listed phone numbers for Swan. Shocked by the news of Lowrey's passing and Calvin's marriage and family, Reacher realizes that his nomadic lifestyle has isolated him from his unit to the point where he could not honor his good friend's memories. He tries to blame Neagley for it, but she deflects the accusation by telling him that even if he had known about the events, he would not have come. Neagley argues that they will be arrested on the charges of federal mail tampering if the workers see them trying every PO box. Reacher comes up with a plan in which Neagley distracts the workers while he tries to locate the box Calvin likely used based on his traits. Reacher successfully locate the box as he is nearly caught by the post office worker. They search the rooms and soon discover another person inside who they ambush, only to discover that it was O'Donnell who had arrived there beforehand and discovered its ransacked state. O'Donnell informs them that he had been with his family in the woods with little to no technology. When the family returned home, O'Donnell discovered the urgent message left behind by Neagley. O'Donnell shares his condolences with the pair about Calvin's passing and determines to kill the culprits. Shortly after, Neagley plugs in the USB only to discover it to be password protected with 3 guesses in 2 minutes before data is wiped from the drive. The team scrambles for guesses and they begin to dissect Calvin's character to come up with something that he might’ve used as a password until O'Donnell argues that Calvin had respected Reacher the most to which Neagley inputs it as it turns out to be the correct password much to an emotional Reacher.

110th Unit realise they are being hunted

In the hotel, Neagley prints out the list of aliases, which all include the initials A.M. to which Reacher theorizes that it was preserved that way so the person would never have to change their signature. Additionally, they print out seven pages containing an apparently random succession of numbers with no apparent order or explanation. In an attempt to contact Swan, the three travel to his Queens apartment, only to find it in shambles and his dog Maisi dead from dehydration. Reacher theorized that Swan had been dead for some time as he would never let his dog die from thirst. Fearing for their teammate's lives, Reacher comes to the conclusion that someone has a vendetta against their group and he is determined to take out their pursuers.

The trio escape the scene with O'Donnell criticizing him for his reckless actions as he will be wanted by the NYPD, Neagley recognizes Russo to be one of the officers in charge of Calvin's murder case. Reacher theorizes that the NYPD had seen Calvin's call made to Neagley and got alerted when she bought Reacher's plane ticket though he does not know the reason why. O'Donnell informs the pair that he had called Jorge Sanchez and Manuel Orozco only to find that their voice mail was full. Accumulated with unfortunate circumstances, Reacher agrees that they should head to Atlantic city in search of Sanchez and Orozco as well as avoiding cops.

In airport parking, Reacher spots one of their comrades Karla Dixon who had been in an deep undercover job in Texas for a corporate embezzlement case and did not get their message until recently. Reacher updates Dixon with the ongoing situations and asks her to rent out a car with her fake ID to which she obliges and joins them in their investigation.

Dixon looks over the number pages left behind by Calvin but is unable to make sense of them. Despite it's nonsensical meaning, Dixon points out that the first four, sixth and seven pages have 26 numbers while the fifth has 27 numbers. O'Donnell suspects that James Barr is behind the murders though Reacher quickly disproves of this based on his MO and the fact that Barr is in Reacher's debt when he ran into him in Indiana last year.

Reacher and 110th Unit talk to Milena

In Atlantic City, New Jersey, the team find Sanchez and Orozco's workplace to be in a similar state as all the other properties owned by members of the 110th unit saved for Swan's residence. As they searched the room, O'Donnell comes across the photo that was taken on the first night that the 110th unit was together. Reacher realizes that he is the only member who does not have a copy. Reacher comes across a framed photo of Sanchez and another woman in the bar and decides that it is their next lead. They arrive at Lucky's Lounge bar where Reacher and Neagley questions the whereabouts of the woman while Dixon and O'Donnell are stationed outside. The pair are led into the office by two employees and is attempted ambushed by the staff though they thwart their attempt. Milena is caught outside by Dixon and is brought in for questioning. Inside the bar, Milena apologises for attempting to run away as she recogniszes their faces from Sanchez's old photos and reassures them that the bar staff were only looking out for her safety. Milena confirms that Calvin, Orozco and Sanchez were working on a case together and had been to the bar couple of weeks ago as well as mentioning Swan in their case but is not in their operation. Reacher bluntly delivers news of Calvin's murder to Milena which drives her to the thought of whether Sanchez and Orozco were killed as well though Neagley assures her that it is still unconfirmed. In her last encounter with Sanchez, Milena recalls that he had received an important call with the phrase "650 at 100k each" which worries Sanchez as he left the bar in a hurry.

Reacher and 110th Unit talk to Wright

Determined that the amount of money was possibly stolen in a casino without detection from authorities, the team travels to Neptune Casino and theorize that Sanchez and Orozco had worked as freelance casino security and stumbled on the case and reached out to Franz for assistance. When a casino waitress named Ellie asks for their order, Reacher instead asks her to get the director of security. The team is introduced to David Wright who recognizes them from Sanchez and Orozco who had told him stories about the unit frequently. Wright is shocked to learn of the potential deaths of Orozco and Sanchez. Reacher informs him about the possible case of 65 million dollars gambling scam though Wright assures him that they had not lost money as all of it is accounted for. She further asks if he gets lonely by his lifestyle though he doesn’t answer. At night, Reacher sneaks out to analyze the numbers document by himself when he spots Dixon at a blackjack table, winning with her number skills. Dixon is accused of counting cards and is politely thrown out of the casino with the scarred man sitting nearby. Reacher and Dixon decide to take a late night walk where she express her desire of busting government corruption from abusing tax money and instead, of utilizing it to help the people in need and desires to start a non-profit watchdog group. Dixon asks how their relationship had never occurred back in the military days to which he reasons that it was not professional as he was her boss. They notice two men following them and Reacher notices that the vehicle in front of them with New York has been following them since they left New York. Reacher suggests that the lure their followers into a construction site where Reacher kills the first hired goon with a trowel and drowns the scarred man in cement. Reacher recovers the car key from the scarred man and discover the man's burner phone with Shane Langston's number, Reacher calls Langston who warns him that it will not end well for him but Reacher tells him that he can detect fear in his voice before hanging up. Inside the car, they discover their profiles as well as a New Age Technologies parking lot pass which had been stamped yesterday morning. Reacher realizes that the tailing men were pros before heading back to the hotel where they treat each other's wounds sustained from the fight. Enamoured with each other, the pair sleep together.

Wright visits them in their room to update them that Atlantic City PD have discovered Sanchez and Orozco's bodies in upstate New York with injuries similar to Calvin's and had been there for some time based on the amount of decomposition. Additionally, Wright reveals that no one had checked into any hotel in the area with the given A.M aliases as well as informing them that Orozco and Sanchez did not work for any of the casino's competitors. When inquired about the gambling dollar scam, the competitors pulled their overnight audits and verified that any losses were within acceptable loss margins. Dixon determines the case is centered on New York based on current evidence and facts that they have acquired. Enraged by the loss of his unit, Reacher seeks to acquire more weapons.

He collects the stash and returns with the group. Among their banter, they are unknowingly tailed by a police vehicle which signals them to park over. Reacher asks Dixon to pull over and the driving officer orders them to wait. Sometime after, Russo arrives and arrests Reacher once he identified him, Reacher asks O'Donnell to act as his lawyer since he had some law experience in Rutgers. He also tasks Neagley and Dixon into investigating the New Age's parking pass. O'Donnell accompanies Reacher and Russo to the police station. Inside the car, Russo reveals that he tracked them by obtaining security footage from car rental companies at the airport and had recognized them when they were renting a car with Dixon's assistance. He tracks the plate and monitors if it had gone back to New York when a police cruiser spots and reported them in. While being transported in the back seat of Russo's car, Reacher and O'Donnell discover a bag full of kids toys much to his ire.

Reacher and O'Donnell are interrogated by Russo

In the interrogation room, Reacher recognises that he was brought here for possible information related to his case as he was not processed. Russo announces that their efforts are actively interfering with his investigations. They begin to show reluctant goodwill between them and exchange information based on their one common trait in which they want to solve the murders in Upstate New York. Russo reveals that Calvin Franz's phone logs have multiple calls that are addressed to O'Donnell, Sanchez, Swan, Orozco but not to Reacher who reveals that he does not carry a phone with him. Reacher relents and proposes a deal in which they share information about the case. They share the phrase "650 and 100K" in which they assumed to be 65 million dollars though cannot determined how and what the money is for. When Russo insinuates that his friends were criminals involved in the case, Reacher angrily confronts Russo and accuses him of being a dirty cop through him tailing them without identifying himself, gathers information from them without making a formal arrest as to keep the matter off the books, Russo insists that he is not a dirty cop. The tension is resolved through O'Donnell's intervention, he asks him to keep the integrity through him sharing information that they have not known. Russo announces that they have a suspect in the case which was discovered through a memory card which was inside a printer in Calvin's office. The printer reveals a man by the alias Azhari Mahmoud who is known to INTERPOL as a weapons broker for terrorist organizations, and Sanchez's notes indicate that he is the man of interest in their case. Reacher realizes that Sanchez and Orozco had dug out the information for Calvin's ongoing case. Noticing that the name has A.M initial, Reacher writes the list from before and tells Russo to have DHS flag all of his aliases. Reacher and O'Donnell realize that the case is bigger than they have initially thought as the trio may be involved with the case of terrorism.

110th Unit prepares to infiltrate Saropian's house

Sometime later, Russo returns to inform Reacher and O'Donnell that they have a hit on a person with the initials A.M. who has booked a ticket from Denver to JFK. Afterwards, Reacher and O'Donnell are released and they rejoin Dixon and Neagley in the motel to discuss the home of Saropian with the address recovered from Neagley and Dixon's visit to New Age Technologies. Reacher asks for the information of Saropian's next door neighbour Barbara Gottlesman who Reacher calls to confirm whether he still lives there. Mrs. Gottlesman confirms that it is Saropian's home and the team go to infiltrate the area after acquiring tools and weapons. Neagley picks the lock with Reacher tossing a pipe bomb which eliminates some of the hired goons who are inside. The team kills everyone inside and Reacher spots a vehicle watching over their fight before the driver frantically leaves after realizing that he has been noticed. Neagley goes to the rooftop to assist Reacher in locating the car. After chasing a while, Reacher gains the upperhand as he throws a barbecue stand onto the window, causing the car to crash. Reacher pulls the man who is revealed to be a New Age employee named Brian Collins and attempts to interrogate him only for Collins to succumbs to a heart attack. Reacher attempts to resuscitate the man but is unsuccessful. He returns to Saropian's residence to inform the group that he was not able to obtain any informnation. The group leave the residence shortly after.

110th Unit discover Swan is part of New Age Technologies

The team returns to the motel where they are confronted by Russo who is appalled at their reckless actions. Reacher reveals that he knows they were being set up as they doubt an assassin would leave his address which brings up two possibilities. The first being that Saropian could have gone to the company and masked his identity and provide a fake address. The second is that Saropian was working for New Age as a hitman hired to track the unit down with the real address left behind serving as bait. Russo warns that their partnership would only work if they stopped their reckless actions as it had put Russo in a tight spot when he purposefully misstates their descriptions while taking Mrs. Gottlesman statement. Additionally, Russo informs that A.M. never make it to the airport which invalidates the given list of aliases as well as names with initials A.M. as the man must now know that he is being watched. Russo offers to warrant a search into New Age, but warns them to stay put until they hear from him. Reacher gives Russo their burner phone number and Russo warns him to not commit any more "cowboy" actions. Reacher disregards his warning as his team prepares to ram through New Age HQ with their car, Reacher tasks them to loot anything valuable in H.R, Server Room and Director of Operations office. The team rams through the HQ as they begin to loot everything they can lay their hands on. While looting, Reacher comes across a photo of New Age's employees and collects it. The team burns their disguises and the group looks shocked as they discovered Swan to be one of the employees of New Age Technologies.

In A Night at the Symphony, Reacher and his unit sift through all the information when O'Donnell suggests that Swan may have played a role in tracking down the remaining 110th Unit, Reacher instantly disputes the accusations owing to their time in the unit. O'Donnell discover that Swan was working for New Age as Assistant Director of Security, under Shane Langston who is Director of Security and the man Reacher believes he contacted back in Atlantic City as well as the driver Brian Collins who was working for the company as Associate Security Officer. Additionally, Neagley suspects that Marlo Burns knew that she was sending them into a trap in Trevor Saropian's residence, O'Donnell is dismayed in having to looking into all New Age employees as they may have played roles in hunting them down though Reacher tells him that they will tackled the issue one at a time.

By morning, Reacher complains about the song played in the diner. Neagley discovers that Swan has private information in mails addressed to Marlo without sharing them to Langston and security personnel in his department. In the email, Swan details cryptic meaning in the form of "Jimi Hendrix - Axis: Bold as Love. The 6th song is amazing" with O'Donnell immediately notices the discrepancies as Swan hated Hendrix who played with a hard guitar with Dixon discovers that the 6th track is titled Little Wing. Immediately recalled a document from before, Reacher pulls out a federal defense project titled Little Wing which is the biggest contract that New Age had acquired. Additionally, a test for Little Wing was conducted for military brass though it does not detailed the time nor location. However, Senator Malcolm Lavoy tried to get congressional votes to approve for Little Wing as he fully believed in New Age's project and willing to help the company. O'Donnell lays out information regards to Lavoy who is known to engage in illegal activities. Dixon recaps that Swan was code-texted to Marlo who was trying to have the unit killed about a program supported by a corrupt politician and decides that they need to interrogate Lavoy though Neagley disapproves due to his high security detail. O'Donnell suggests questioning his legislative director as they know details of laws being passed and may have information about the project and also have no security detail attached to them, O'Donnell reveals that he had private information of all high personnel and offers to get the name of Lavoy's legislative director and his personal information. Reacher approves and O'Donnell goes outside to make some calls. During his time away, Neagley suggests that Swan may have been a traitor to the unit because his body was never discovered nor his home looted like others, but Reacher responds that he would never allow his dog Maisi die of thirst. Dixon speculates that he may have taken payoffs due to financial difficulties, and Neagley reminds him that there are some people they don't know as well as they believed.

Neagley suggests that he was caught red-handed and had to let the chance of money making passed by until Little Wing comes up but Reacher affirms his stand that Swan was a good man. Neagley suggests that Reacher wants to prove Swan's innocence because he does not want to blame himself for their friends deaths and cast doubt on his analytical abilities. The three leaves to see O'Donnell's findings.

In the motel, O'Donnell discovers Lavoy's legislative director to be Daniel Boyd who is spoiled by his family with his two criminal history charges during his university days are mysteriously disappeared. O'Donnell is informed that Boyd will be attending a fundraiser event in Boston. After multiple calls from Russo, Reacher decides to answer with Russo angrily confronts him about his break in with New Age HQ though Reacher sarcastically feigns ignorance. Russo demands to know the unit's obtained information about New Age with Reacher obliges as he sends him information about New Age's security team roster and asks Russo to run background checks much to his ire and informs him that they are heading to Boston. Before departing to their destination, Neagley and Dixon suggests that they visit Marlo's house and questions her for more information while Reacher and O'Donnell head out to obtain weapons from drug dealers.

After obtaining the weapons, Dixon and Neagley informs Reacher and O'Donnell that Marlo and her daughter Jane had fled from their home with bag of cash left behind. They depart for Boston, Massachusetts and stops by at a clothing store where they dressed up formal for the events. O'Donnell is confused as to where Reacher had left his casual clothes, Reacher bluntly tells him that it's in the garbage and reasons that it was too much luggage to carry, causing a chain reaction in him settling in if carried, which O'Donnell jokingly chalks up as sociopathic behavior. O'Donnell inquires him about Marlo's whereabouts and the state of her home though Reacher is uncertain of her reason, O'Donnell teases him that Marlo could be his soulmate due to her only taking her toothbrush which Reacher amusingly denies. Neagley is disgusted with her formal appearance with Reacher sharing the same sentiment as he compares their attires to "assholes on top of a wedding cake", Reacher offers to pay back her costs in 2 months with his pension money which Neagley accepts. Dixon emerges with her evening gown much to a flustered Reacher who she notices his reaction. The team departs for the event.

Sometime prior, Reacher contacts Finlay to ask him for his help in arresting Boyd. Afterwards, Reacher and O'Donnell is stationed at a nearby diner near where the fundraiser event was taking place with Dixon tasked to lure Boyd and Neagley overseeing the operation. The pair are analyzing the numbers pages when a waitress's offhanded comment about tally. Reacher realises that the list of numbers is a set of fractions and when tallying up resulted in 2197 total events but the numbers accounted for successful ones is only up to 1547 times. When accounted for the times they have failed, it is decreased to 650 times similar to the phrase "650 and 100K each". During his investigation, O'Donnell receives his call from one of his children in which he advises them to only use their hand for helping, not hitting much to a surprised Reacher who sarcastically remarks O'Donnell as someone who has brass knuckles on. O'Donnell tells Reacher that domestic life had greatly changed him from his military days and he will not trade it for any sum of money, no matter how big, he suggests that domestic life with Dixon might be beneficial to Reacher though he would only settled down with 4 to 5 dogs and considers Dixon a close friend. Neagley announces to the pair that it is intermission with Dixon and Boyd leaving the opera with Finlay on his position. O'Donnell questions Reacher of Finlay's integrity but he assures him that if he were in the army, Reacher would have include him in the unit.

Boyd is arrested by Finlay and brought to the interrogation room where Reacher and O'Donnell posed as FBI Special Agents Jack Margrave and Blake owing to Finlay and Reacher's connection in Margrave. Boyd demands his lawyer but the pair threats to leak of his infidelity and drug story. They offer to let the story go in exchanged for information related to Little Wing. Boyd initially hesitant but relents after O'Donnell threatens to call his wife, Boyd reveals Little Wing is a code name for a software in development that allows ground-fired missiles to defeat all known countermeasures but is originally developed to protect commercial aircraft until New Age finds that the software could be tweaked to its current version. Furthermore, the missiles shot from the ground would bypass its main target which would cause the pilot to believe that they are safe until it is recalibrated to their location and is unescapable. When inquired of Lavoy's involvement, the senator knows that this type of technology would greatly advanced their military and save lives and Boyd offers to bury its proposal through mountains of document while Lavoy gathers congressional votes to help greenlight it. Boyd reassures them that the technology is in safe hands as they are the only one to possessed it, Boyd slips up about New Age having two facilities. The software is produced in New York while the hardware is made in a manufacturing plant in Denver, Colorado. Obtained necessary information, Reacher and O'Donnell left the room with Boyd left confused as to whether the drug charges are dropped only for Reacher to answer that he is not a cop. Outside, Reacher and Finlay catch up with each other since Margrave, Finlay offers his help but Reacher declines as to not further involved him in the unit's case, Finlay is reunited with Neagley who he compliments her outfit much only for an embarrassed Neagley telling him to mind his own business. The trio amicably departs.

Inside the car, Reacher tasks Dixon and Neagley to go to New Age's Colorado facility to try to sabotage hardware facility while he and O'Donnell head to Homeland Security in D.C. further learn about A.M. with his brother's contacts. When O'Donnell inquires about Joe, Reacher bluntly tells them that he is dead much to their shock. The 110th unit makes a pit stop at a nearby diner to starve off their hunger. In the parking lot, the unit is confronted by a biker gang who confiscate all their weapons and intend to silently kill them in the parking plot. Reacher and his unit maims and kills some of the gang members before recovering their arsenal. Reacher recovers the gang leader's phone and contacts Langston to inform him that his attempt on their lives has failed. Langston offers him with anything he desires only for Reacher to announce his desire of tossing him out of a helicopter.

In Burial, Reacher and O'Donnell arrives in Washington, D.C where they stop by at the latter household and meet Lily O'Donnell and their two young sons Danny O'Donnell and Davy O'Donnell. After O'Donnell ushers his family to flee to Asheville as a safe precaution, Reacher is surprised at her lack of panic reaction to the situation, O'Donnell explains that she is the daughter of an ER nurse and a Chicago fire chief and is used to tense and urgent situations. Reacher amusingly jokes that he thought that O'Donnell would end up dying from gonorrhea and dozen of girls fighting for his riches, O'Donnell states that he did not want to get every girl but just the right one. Shortly after, O'Donnell receives a message that Neagley and Dixon are in New Age's Denver plant.

Shortly after, O'Donnell and Reacher heads to Homeland Security and use his brother's connection to the Treasury department where they meet two specialist agents about A.M. The agents informed him that A.M. is a ghost and the department only possessed three short recordings of his voice. From their limited knowledge, the agents assumed that A.M's only ideology is money as he usually works as a weapons broker and helps the highest bidder to obtain experimental or advanced weaponry and use them for terrorism. A.M.'s is first spotted in Luxembourg six years prior where he helps the terrorists to acquire experimental nerve gas, the government agents intercepted the trade and apprehend all terrorists involved except for A.M. Reacher and O'Donnell realises that the buy was supposed to occurred with bearer bonds as it is a financial instrument for tax evaders and money launderers. The form of of payment discontinued by the Treasury Department in the 1980s due to its appeal to individuals like A.M but some countries continued to use them. Reacher realises that someone as careful as A.M would use bearer bonds as he can transport millions in a briefcase without revealing the identity of the bondholder. Recognizing this, the former head of the unit deduces that A.M. is likely to make the payment in person rather than sending a third party and will be present during the transaction of the missiles, and will be the perfect opportunity to nab him. O'Donnell and Reacher thanked the agents and promised to reach out once they pieced the case together, the agents in return promise that A.M. and individuals working with him will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law but Reacher says that if his unit get to them first, all of them will be killed much to the shock of the agents.

In the parking lot, Reacher and O'Donnell are contacted by Neagley and Dixon who had learned that 650 missiles had already been transported and hijacked. Additionally, it was Swan who had personally authorized its shipment in New York just before it departs from the factory, Reacher theorises that Swan was forced or his signature was forged but the pair tell him that it is his digital thumprint on the bill of lading. Additionally, Dixon tells Reacher that New Age's HQ in NY had various biometrics security and there is no possibility that Swan was forced without creating a huge scene and the odds that it is a conspiracy with all New Age employees on its participation is minimal, tilting further suspicion to Swan. After hanging up, O'Donnell asks if Reacher is willing to kill Swan only for him to tell O'Donnell that he is going for a walk.

Reacher is picked up by government agents Seaver and Hart who tells him that Senator Malcolm Lavoy has a proposition for him. Reacher agrees to hear his proposition and accompanies the agents to Smithsonian National Zoological Park where they meet at the backstage of primate exhibit as it is a place where Lavoy can meet without prying eyes or surveillance bugs. Lavoy reintroduces Daniel Boyd to Reacher and informs him that he knew that Reacher and O'Donnell were not FBI agents as he had reached to an associate of his within the bureau and discovers his identity through a facial recognition software when security footage captures the pair in Boston precinct. Boyd starts to sarcastically list of Reacher's identity and military accomplishment much to Lavoy's ire, Boyd starts to divulge the incident in Margrave, Georgia and the counterfeiting operation was brought down by Roscoe and Finlay per the official story. Lavoy knows that Reacher is also part of the incident and asks him to do his work for this same case. When Reacher insinuated to Boyd that military and civilian aircrafts are in endangered due to Little Wing, Lavoy assumes that terrorists are interested in the technology and does not allow anyone to possessed it. Reacher theorised that if the incident were exposed to the public, Lavoy would be discovered to engage in shady dealings in Little Wing's creation and indicted for his crime, Lavoy justifies that he only approves the weapon in use to defend their nation but Reacher includes that it would also fill up his pockets though Lavoy does not deny it. The senator affirms his stand that he does not want innocent people to die because of this tech and offers his help in Reacher's endeavor in taking down New Age and Little Wing and leave no man alive to hunt Reacher and his unit. Lavoy departs with his administration and Reacher is left alone to mulled over his words. O'Donnell calls Reacher to let him know that Calvin's funeral will take place tomorrow in New York as the coroner had finally released his body.

At Calvin's funeral, Neagley, Dixon, Reacher and O'Donnell divulge details regarding in Denver, Colorado where Neagley learns that the decoy truck was switched with a trailer that only contains crates of bricks that is equal to the weight of missiles and launchers. The unit recognises that their plan is to drive a decoy cargo down the port in Los Angeles where it will be shipped off to South Korea where it will take 3 to 4 weeks for a cargo ship to arrived from the West Coast and possibly months till its discovery. Dixon divulges that truck was discovered in a filed outside Denver where it is presumed to have been loaded to a private plane and shipped to nearby New York as its skies are heavily watched since the 9/11 attacks. The group decides to based their objective on where the missiles have been transported. At the same time, the group spotted Russo shared his condolences to Franz's family. Reacher interprets Russo's actions as manipulative as he has no connection to the family and confronts him, he accuses Russo of being a dirty cop and presumes he had given biker gang to their location in Boston due to him being the only person who is told where the group was heading. Russo angrily reveals that he related to Mikey's situation due to his own father who is not corrupted was killed on the force much to Reacher shock with Russo threatening to beat Reacher if he accuses him of being a dirty cop again. Additionally, Russo reveals that all personnel were former NYPD and from the 3rd precinct with Langston and few men were formerly investigated by Internal Affairs before their charges are mysteriously vanished as they took their early retirement. Sometime after, they were hired by New Ages and hires their fellow dirty cops, Reacher realises that security personnel are filled of dirty cops saved for Swan who was the only one to possessed military experiences. Russo reveals that he could not conduct an interview with any of them as all their home are empty similar to Swan's and starts telling Reacher to consider the possibility.

The funeral procession begins but Reacher notices two snipers from afar and alerts funeral goers of active shooters. Reacher and his unit converge and tries to formulate a plan in capturing or killing the snipers before the cop's arrival. Reacher draws their fire towards him, buying enough time for Neagley to kill one of the sniper. Seeing his companion killed, the sniper runs to his car with Reacher in pursuit but fails to catch him. Russo arrives with his car and urges Reacher to get inside. Inside the car, Reacher starts to consider the possibility that there is a mole in his department after seeing how he protects the Franzs from harm. The pair pursue the vehicle but Reacher notices and criticises him in playing safe in a high-speed chase, Reacher assists Russo by grabbing the wheel and accelerates the car and derails the pursuing vehicle. Reacher and Russo jumps out and the former interrogates the man for information, Reacher asks Russo to look away as New Age are getting desperate in ridding the unit by attacking them in broad daylight in a crowded funeral and recognises the trade is upon them to which he obliges. Reacher begins to strangled the man until he spills out that they were supposed to take them out the same time as the salute shot to mask theirs and he was supposed to meet his hirer in an abandoned building in Queens and reveals that the hirer was Swan much to Reacher's shock.

Sometime after, Russo has the exit covered around the building with Dixon and O'Donnell are in position. Reacher and Neagley tells the sniper to get paid and give them the rundown of the amount of people inside, the weapons, the layout of the room and promises to cut him loose and allow him to walk away with the money. Reacher takes the sniper's phone and implants a listening device and gestures him to begin the operation but threatens to kill him alongside others if he derails their plan. Neagley theorises that Swan had seen an opportunity to make money and tries to get Calvin in on the operation but he refuses and tries to stopped it by pursuing the investigation with Orozco and Sanchez or Swan had accidentally slipped his words to Franz, causing him to get suspicious and pursue the case. Reacher reveals to brutally interrogate Swan for information but does not answer the aftermath when inquired by Neagley. The sniper enters the building only to die in its explosion much to their horrifying shock.

In New York's Finest, Reacher and his unit converged at the playground where O'Donnell immediately comes to the conclusion that Swan had been setting them up to be killed but Reacher affirms his stand that Swan was not corrupted. Russo arrives shortly after and informs the group that the building was rigged with tripwired IEDs and only contains the body of the sniper and no signs of Swan, Russo comes to the conclusion that someone had military training in setting up the explosion and presumes that Swan's plan was to have them killed in the building while taking out the sniper in the playground. Shortly after, Russo informs them that Marlo's car was discovered abandoned in north of Manhattan near Cortland with Reacher decides to head there as their next objective. Reacher asks Russo to accompany with them but he excuses himself with personal matters.

Personality and Traits[]

"One Hundred Thousand years ago there were people who stayed by the campfire and people who wandered. I'm pretty sure I'm a direct descendent of the wandering type."
—Reacher in Pie

Reacher is a stoic individual who conceals his true intentions behind a wall of steel. He is blunt, direct, brutally honest, and knows his size causes intimidation that he uses to get what he needs. He combines his naturally intimidating demeanor with a zero hesitance to threaten or kill. Reacher shows no mercy to people he goes up against and will kill without hesitation, showing little interest in seeing people brought to justice the traditional way. Reacher has a very strong sense of justice and will do anything to right what he sees as a wrong, even at great personal cost to himself. He hates bullies, those whom are cruel, and dislikes those who view themselves as better than others. Reacher is quiet and dislikes speaking unless he has to, with a natural disliking for any nonsense or small talk. He is astutely observant, a naturally gifted profiler, and doesn't hesitate to prove he's correct or point out others flaws. Despite his distant and gruff nature, he tends to be softer when talking to those he likes, such as Roscoe Conklin, and makes an effort to treat women, the elderly, children, and normal folks with respect. He also has a love for dogs, even using his spare time to take care of a mistreated neighborhood dog.

As a child, Reacher grew up in a family with a long history in military service, and as a result of this was often forced to move to different parts of the world and live on military bases for his father's career. Despite this, or perhaps because of it, Reacher often found it difficult to socialize or form any lasting connections with the other kids his own age with his closest connection being with his older brother Joe. This sense of isolation would only increase once Reacher became an adult and began his own career in the military, becoming a man of few friends and even fewer acquaintances before eventually retiring to become a wandering hobo. During his time, investigating his brother's murder in Margrave, however, this began to change as Reacher found himself becoming emotionally attached to the local Margrave PD captain, Finlay and especially Officer Roscoe even forming a brief romantic relationship with the latter. Before leaving town, Finlay suggests that Reacher should try and form more lasting bonds, advice which Reacher seems to take to heart.

Physical Appearance[]

Reacher is 6 feet 5 inches (1.96m) tall, weighing 250 pounds (95–113 kg), with a hulking physique. He has massive and strong biceps, abs, and pecs, as well as straight white teeth. He's always been tall for his age, standing just taller than his older brother in their teen years. He has various scars, most notably on his abdomen caused by a bombing in Kandahar where the debris of a jaw bone had to be removed. He has a collection of scars on his back, one of which was caused by a knife slash outside a bar that he refused to get stitches for.[4] He has dirty blonde hair that is trimmed to perfection despite his hobo-ing ways, striking blue eyes, thin lips, wide nose, and faint stubble.

Relationships[]

Joe Reacher[]

Jack and Joe were very close as children, often leaning on one another for support while traveling from one place to another. Joe, being the eldest, tried to look out for Reacher and taught him life lessons. Joe even took the fall for Reacher during a bullying incident in Okinawa, when Reacher was only twelve. The brothers remained close but drifted apart as the years went on, only reuniting briefly during a visit to see their dying mother. Joe told Reacher about the Blues musician Blind Blake, and after hearing the song on a radio years later, Reacher traveled to Margrave to solve the musicians death. Instead, Reacher was arrested for a murder he didn't commit, and got caught up in a deep conspiracy in the town. Things became personal when the dead man in the morgue was identified as Joe. He became hellbent on solving his brothers murder and killing the men responsible, a feat he ultimately accomplished nearly two-weeks later.

Roscoe Conklin[]

S01E08-03

Roscoe is the first person in Margrave that Reacher enjoys talking to. They develop romantic feelings for one another as they investigate the murders taking place in Margrave. At first, it is apparent that she feels sorry for him over the loss of his brother and no living family. Reacher even says that he had no one left to care for after his brother died until he started to get close to Conklin, implying that he now cared for her. They shared many intimate moments, including have sex while away investigating a lead. He respects her as a person but had to realize she could take care of herself, despite his unwillingness to let her being danger. When the word "whore" was spray painted on her truck by KJ Kliner, he lashed out at KJ by intimidating him at the local diner. On other occasions, including the diner fight, the mention of Roscoe's name in a negative light was enough to spark a reaction from Reacher. The pair grew close but when it came time for him to leave, he admitted she was the only person that could make him stay close to the flame instead of wandering. She made him promise to call her if he ever found himself near Margrave again, giving him her number on the back of a candy bar. Their separation was bittersweet despite only knowing each other for a short amount of time.

Oscar Finlay[]

Reacher and Oscar began their relationship on rocky footing, often arguing over their differing approaches to solve their case. The more they were forced to work together, the closer they became - albeit begrudgingly.
