Smackdown is the fifth episode of the third season of the Reacher Prime Video television series. It aired on the Amazon Prime Video streaming service on March 6, 2025.
Synopsis[]
When a DEA tragedy puts the entire mission at risk, Reacher, Duffy, and Villanueva improvise a drastic plan to save their cover.
Plot[]
Unable to reach Susan Duffy, Jack Reacher contacted Steven Eliot and was informed Duffy and Guillermo Villanueva were checking out a tubing facility. Reacher informed Eliot of McCabe's men incoming attack, and the latter tried to track the company's phone number. Inside, Duffy and Villanueva were unaware they were being tracked by Harley and 2 others. The phone rang and Duffy was puzzled why it would be used during closing hours, and went to answer the call. Eliot warned them of McCabe's attack before they were fired upon. Reacher arrived there and killed unsuspecting men, saved for Harley. During the shootout, Duffy accidentally dropped her DEA badge, and prepared to kill Harley, only to be stopped by Reacher who warned her another ambush with him emerging as the only survivor would jeopardise the operation, and advised her to get themselves out while he distracted Harley. The agents ditched Dolé's laptop, as they escaped, and Reacher recovered Duffy's badge, and purposefully got them stuck as they attempted to pursue them. Harley reported the federal agents presence to McCabe, and they made their way back to Beck's mansion.
Elsewhere, Villanueva celebrated their survival, but Duffy still wanted to search for Teresa, and recounted the case of Marco Menjivar, a 4 year old boy that was supposedly abducted from his backyard and was missing for 9 months. Boston P.D abandoned Menjivar's case after no new leads were discovered and suspected he was likely to be dead, with his parents arranging an empty casket funeral for the boy. However, Menjivar was discovered to be in the care of Connor Lafferty, an old man suffering from Alzheimer's, thinking Menjivar was his grandson. Duffy used this case as incentive to not abandon Teresa, and believed she was still alive, and asked Villanueva to do the same.
Near the coastline, Reacher and Harley dumped the corpses into the torrent wave, with Harley recounting dumping a man who was still alive but had his spine snapped by Paulie. While working, Harley revealed the men recruited were ex-military who were dishonorably discharged, men who failed psychiatric evaluation and dropped out of police academy, the antisocial and crooks from around the world. He knew of Reacher through Duke, and warned Paulie was going to kill him for his humiliation in the gym. Slipping away in the shed, Reacher was informed of Duffy and Villanueva's intention of spreading their search, hoping to catch them in the act in moving Teresa, now their location were compromised. She was to search storage crates, while Villanueva industrial lubricant plants, and was informed of Reacher's possession of her badge. Outside, Zachary Beck was appalled to learn of federal's involvement, and McCabe had sent Howatt and Tank for extra security, and warned Reacher not to further provoke McCabe with his failures. Inside, Reacher knocked out Howatt for his harrasement against Annette, and was given pie as a token of her gratitude. In his room, he hid Duffy's badge in a pillowcase.
Elsewhere, John Cooper begged Eliot for a smoke, and convinced him to follow through with his request. Reluctantly, Eliot lit off a lighter, unaware Cooper had consumed a bottle of alcohol and spat the flammable substance towards his face, disorientating him and allowed Cooper to break free and stomped Eliot to death. Shortly after, Duffy returned from her fruitless search and was outraged at his death. She called Reacher to inform him of Cooper's upcoming arrival to the manor, as his phone was confiscated and Beck's numbers was unlisted. Reacher had Villanueva staged a fake car accident from Beck's home, and Duffy to destroy a power transformer, and gave him incentive to leave the property. During blackout, Reacher framed the precursor attack to be the work of Dolé's group, and volunteer himself to leave and stop incoming attackers. Beck informed McCabe of the blackout and was ordered to search the staff and their belongings, and assigned it to Harley, Tank and Howatt. Outside, Reacher and Villanueva flipped the car in front of the road, and had the latter posed as a victim of the accident, while Reacher hid himself in the bushes. While waiting, Villanueva revealed he was to retired in 5 months, but chosen to follow Duffy with her operation, due to their close relationship, and was afraid he would be killed. But Reacher assured him their plan would work. Cooper approached the crash, and was shot in the head by Reacher. They hid the car in the bush, and Cooper's corpse was stashed in the trunk.
Duffy falsely reported Eliot's father that his son's death was the result of his investigation into a Worcester drug ring. Reacher called her to inform Cooper's death but learnt she had spun the story to keep the DEA off their backs, and planned to come clean and was willing to lose her job. Back at Beck's manor, Reacher framed the blackout was the result of a drunk crashing a nearby power transformer. He learnt Annette was an ATF agent, and was reporting the agency of Beck's operation every 2 weeks through her phone. Reacher was willing to interrogate Annette for them, but was unaware she had already been killed by Paulie. He called Paulie's move to be stupid, as it had removed their only source, but was further provoked by him, and slapped in the head, drawing blood. Harley called Reacher to remove Annette's body, and her disappearance would be framed as her getting fired from Beck's service, and complained Dolé's death had removed him time from fixing his boat, Sweet Marie, as now he had to write new advertisement for maid services and ran background checks on them. Tired of Harley's talkativeness, Reacher punched him in the gut, and they tossed Annette's body in the river. Later, Richard visited Reacher and told him he knew of Annette's coverup, but admitted he couldn't refused or he would be killed. He figured Reacher was scared of Paulie, and confessed the Becks were as well, but Reacher told him he wasn't scared, only he couldn't figure out Paulie's attacks yet.
He contacted Duffy and informed her of Annette's death and ATF were in on the case. Reacher figured Darien Prado, an international drug-runner required high-end and untraceable weapons, and a mechanic was needed to fix the weapons, and the industrial lubricant was used for polish. Quinn's big sale was coming up and any dangerous individuals could be the client. Duffy started to worry for Teresa, after learning Annette was immediately killed upon being discovered to be an ATF agent.
The next morning, Reacher was still awake with Annette's blood remained on his hands, until Beck noticed and told him to wash the stains away. They were both summoned to Bizzare Bazzar's warehouse by Quinn. Reacher relayed this to Duffy, and was advised to keep the phone on in his pocket so they could provide backup. Reacher knew this summon was a potential suicide mission, and was willing to kill Quinn to get his revenge, but Duffy angrily told him, Quinn's death would also lead to Teresa's demise. He told her Teresa likely died, following the shakeup from last night. Before leaving, Reacher left his phone on and they head to the warehouse. Duffy and Villanueva staked out the place, and they head inside, with Reacher intending to follow through with his suicide mission.
