Spoonful is the third episode of the first season of the Reacher Prime Video television series. It aired on the Amazon Prime Video streaming service on February 3, 2022.
Synopsis[]
While Reacher and Roscoe are stuck in Alabama due to road flooding, Roscoe's home is broken into by what appears to be the same team that murdered Police Chief Morrison and his wife. Reacher and Finlay continue to investigate the murders and end up at Kliner's office where he claims to know nothing. Roscoe is told that Reacher murdered some civilians while serving in Iraq.
Plot[]
In the aftermath of Roscoe's home invasion, Reacher instinctively wants to protect her, as he remarks it's normal to be scared. This angers her as she isn't scared, calling him a condescending asshole and detailing how she could have been in the FBI or CIA but didn't, because she can't tolerate horseshit but she doesn't need him to look out for her. She isn't scared - she's pissed, and rightfully so as they broke into her home that she fixed up with her money, in the town that her family built. Roscoe gets a box down from the shelf and opens it, revealing a massive yet stunning gun inside. She gives it to Reacher, who test fires it on the stump outside, shooting a massive whole through the trunk.
Roscoe, Finlay, and Reacher visit Jasper at the Medical Examiner's office to learn more about the second body found. The man is ID'ed as Pete Jobling, a trucker for a shipping company. Jobling's only run-in with the law was a traffic violation and disorderly conduct beef that a lawyer from Atlanta made go away. Roscoe answers a call from Molly Beth Gordon, a Specialized Administrative Officer with the Secret Service, who worked closely with Joe. She is distraught when Reacher tells her of Joe's death. Molly Beth tells them that Joe was Director of the Office of Investigations, and headed up anti-counterfeiting operations. His investigation in Margrave was classified, but she promises to help Reacher, Roscoe, and Finlay by providing them with Joe's files. Reacher reminds her to only bring the hard copies.
Finlay tells the group that he is going to pay a visit to Spivey at his house and that he wants Roscoe to go back to the Police station to make it appear to Teale that they are looking into the murder of Chief Morrison. Finlay tells Reacher to pay a visit to the Kliner Industries attorneys to see if he can get any info from him about Jobling's disorderly conduct charge.
At Margrave PD, Roscoe placates Teale by saying that she is starting to work on the list of ex-cons that he posted. Stevenson asks if she thinks that is the best thing to do, and she confirms. He then tells her that his cousin Charlie and Paul have not been answering their phone and that he is worried about what is going on in the town.
Finlay breaks into Spivey's home and check's his phone's log. He sees that the last couple of calls on the phone were to Kliner Industries. While examining the phone, he gets struck from behind and repeatedly kicked by a uniformed officer who claims he's from Alton Police and that he's picked the wrong town to rob.
Reacher is ushered into Pete Jobling's attorney's office where he is using the name of Brian Doyle and claiming that he was hit by a delivery truck from The Home Depot. After telling the attorney the truth that he is there to get info on Pete Jobling, he uses violence to force the attorney to print out Jobling's file.
Finlay is released from a holding cell at Alton PD by a feisty Roscoe who can't believe that the two officers beat Finlay and asked them when the last time was that they caught a burgler wearing a three piece suit. Finlay calms her down and on the way out to the car, he says that cursing is the sign of a weak mind, but he also thanks her for having his back and tells her that he did get some info.
They meet back at Jolene's Chicken Shack. From Joblings file, Reacher had found out that the Kliners took care of Jobling's legal fees. Finlay reports that Spivey has disappeared but that he had numerous calls on his phone that were made to Kliner Industries. Reacher and Finlay decide to go to Kliner Industries to talk with Kliner and Roscoe will go back to tracking down Joe's rental car.
Finlay and Reacher pay a visit to Kliner at Kliner Industries where he denies any involvement or awareness of the situation involvng Spivey or Jobling. Kliner advises Finlay to stop his investigation, but Finlay tells Kliner that he will deal with him harshly if he continues to interfere with his investigation.
On the drive back from Kliner Industries, Reacher is thinking about Kliner being a bully and I remembers when he and Joe had
They meet back at Finlay's and agree that it's best to stay out of sight for awhile so they will meet back up at a motel. Reacher is going back to the Blue Cat Bar and Grill to ask about Spivey, and Roscoe is going to talk with Mrs Jobling. At a local convenience store where she needed to purchase some personal items, she runs into KJ Kliner who tells her that Reacher killed some civilians in the war and due to his connections, all the charges disappeared. He tells her that Reacher is a murderer.
Finlay arrives at a team building event that is being held by the Atlanta branch of Axis Financial, which is the company that Hubble works for. Claiming to be Steve Williams from the Charleston branch, Finlay discovers that Hubble had not been to work for a year.
At the Blue Cat Bar and Grill, Reacher is told to leave after he asks about Spivey. Instead of leaving, Reacher punches a guy to the floor and asks him where Spivey is. The man says that Spivey left in a hurry with two Spanish guys. As Reacher is leaving, he notices a car following him. He leads them into a field where he is able to shoot and kill them both. As he opens the trunk of their car to hide their bodies, he sees that Spivey is already there, dead from a bullet to the head.
