Major Susan Turner is a character appearing in the 2016 film Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. She is portrayed by Cobie Smulders.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Susan Turner was born sometime in 1982 and attended private school under the tutelage of Nancy Peters. She later joined the United States Military Police Corps, rising to the rank of major and becoming close friends with Jack Reacher. When Reacher retired from the MP's in 2010, Turner took over command of the 110th Special Investigators unit and continued to stay in touch with Reacher for many years.
Jack Reacher: Never Go Back[]
In 2016, Turner sent Mirkovich and Cibelli to investigate claims of illegal arms dealing in Afghanistan. The two officers were subsequently killed by The Hunter and Turner was framed for incident as well as being framed as a traitor to the United States.
Colonel Archibald Moorcroft became her lawyer, while Colonel Sam Morgan took over temporary command of the unit. While in prison, two Parasource agents were sent to kill Turner. However, Reacher intervened and took them both down. He then escaped the compound with Turner and went on the run from the military.
While on the run, she and Reacher discover that The Hunter is gunning for Samantha Dutton, Reacher's possible daughter. The two arrive at her home and manage to take her out of there. Turner attempted to place Samantha in her old private school until the situation died down, but due to Samantha bringing her phone with her the trio had to flee once more.
The trio then head to New Orleans in search of Daniel Prudhomme as he is where the initial investigation in Afghanistan began. While on the flight there, Turner and Samantha become close while Reacher wards off two Parasource agents.
Once they land, the trio manage to escape from The Hunter who has followed them there. They then find a hotel to stay at and stash Samantha there before Turner and Reacher interrogate Prudhomme. Eventually discovering Parasource is illegally selling United States weapons on the black market.
They eventually coordinate a meeting with Captain Anthony Espin, in order for Prudhomme to testify. However, both are ambushed and Prudhomme is killed. Luckily, Turner and Reacher managed to save Espin before heading to Parasource's headquarters and searching the cargo hold with MP's and FBI agents in toe.
Unfortunately, they find nothing. But Reacher manages to discover that they are also smuggling opium. The members of Parasource are then arrested by the feds, before Samantha calls Reacher and informs him that The Hunter is after her. Reacher and Turner race back to the hotel and manage to save Samantha while Reacher kills The Hunter.
Later, Turner thanks Reacher for his help and is cleared of all charges and is given command of her unit back. With the members of her unit proud to see her back in charge.
Personality and Traits[]
Turner is a tough and stern commander, but also a very caring woman. She showed deep care and love for her subordinates, even to ones who betrayed her. She also did not want to see any harm come to them. She is also shown to bicker with Reacher and hates the idea of being coddled because she is a woman.
